System Restore has been turned off by group policy

I get the error message:

System Restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on System Restore, contact your domain Administrator.

Nor does my task manager open, as my administrator disabled it.

I'm the only one who uses this computer, my account is the master account.

Regedit and CMD don't work either...

copy/paste these into Start -> Run

for CMD:
REG add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System /v DisableCMD /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

for regedit:
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Task Manager:
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

For System Restore:
* Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT and press Enter
* Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore
* In the right-pane:
* Delete the value DisableConfig
* Delete the value DisableSR

Smart 3G Download Speed

Posting again using my K800i while downloading a 8.58mb file from download.com with an average speed of 12.3KB/s.

BTW, I went to the properties of my 3G connection and changed the maximum speed of my k800i modem from 115200 to 921600.

Smart vs. Globe Internet Rates

With Smart, I can download while surfing the net at only PHP10.00 per 30 minutes. I think it's about time for me to get SMART!

I tried accessing my Globe internet earlier, got charged more than PHP57 in less than 10 minutes. All I do is visit the sony ericsson site and google. I don't know how they charge but it surely is expensive! BTW, it's only GPRS access, not even a 3G connection.

Also, Globe SIMs are often defective! Last year I had my MMS/GPRS prepaid account activated at almost every Globe business centers. Their CSRs all claimed that it's already activated, but I just can't access the net. They even said I had a defective cellphone. After buying a new SIM, everything went well. But I had to give up my nice number.angry

A few weeks ago I bought a new SIM (5th sim) for my new K800i, It connected to the internet all right (using the cellphone), but failed to send any MMS and surf through a computer. Globe CSRs claimed it's activated nanaman. Said my unit is defective again. But after inserting my friend's SIM, everything went well. I'm tired of changing SIMs / cellphone numbers already.

Update (5/5/2008): Globe now offers time-based internet aside from their traditional kb-based internet. Check out - Globe KB-Based vs. TIME-Based Internet Rates (Click Here), this is where I inserted a friend's sim and got charged PHP497.00 for 13mins of surfing.

Update (6/2/2008): I bought a new sim again (6th sim) to try out Globe's Time-based internet access. Again, won't work, the new sim is defective again! For those wandering, of course I've activated 3G/MMS/GPRS using the correct procedures; also loaded PHP300. The phone's ok since everything's fine when I inserted a friend's sim.

Haaay! a bunch of *&^#$ CSRs, selling defective SIMs and charging expensive internet access!

Hey! I have nothing against Globe, this is no propaganda. I'm just a customer letting out my frustrations! Hope Globe improves their service. In fairness, their UNLIMITXT is a lot cheaper than Smart. That's why I still have a Globe SIM which I only used for txting coz my MMS won't work, saka mamiso (PHP1.00) lang ang MMS ng Smart to Smart, PHP2.00 for Smart to other Networks. San ka pa? Be SMART!

Sony Ericsson K800i Internet Button

Sony Ericsson K800i made it's internet button too accessible. I often accidentally pressed it, and it automatically connects to the internet.

One good thing about Globe is there's no charge when you access their homepage. So, no problem accidentally pressing the button. Unfortunately, I'm using Smart, anybody knows how to disable the button? Or is there charge when I only access their homepage?

Grrrr, we just couldn't have the best of both worlds!

Update 5/7/2008: Got this info for a while now, got no time to post it until now. I found out that Smart doesn't charge you when their homepage is accessed. The PHP10.00 per 30mins will start upon browsing sites outside Smart page.

Smart 3G settings & configuration for Sony Ericsson K800i

I'm posting here using Smart 3G now. Kinda slow, the network icon says "Connected at 115.2kbps". I read from other forums that Smart 3G supports up to 384kbps. Anybody have any idea?

But I was able to download using actual 115kbps speed. Unlike 56k modems which says "Connected at 44kpbs" but the fastest actual speed is only 36kbps. With 115kbps it is the same speed as the "Smart WiFi" offered by Smart before. Nowadays, it was changed to "Smart Bro" which people say have better service / connection speed. Anyway, it is still worth it with just P10 for every 30mins, not bad at all.

Well, to set your K800i for Smart 3G, text SET 3G SEK800i then send to 211. You will receive over the air settings. Just save the settings and you're ready to go!
